6-Letter Wordle

6-letter Wordle is where the game starts to feel properly roomy. One extra tile does not sound like much, but it changes the shape of the puzzle: there are far more possible answers, and that shifts the whole balance of the game towards your opening guesses.

What the extra letter changes

At five letters a decent opener usually leaves you a workable shortlist. At six, the same opener leaves a much longer one, simply because there are more ways to arrange more letters. The compensation is that each guess also returns more coloured tiles, so the information per guess goes up too. The net effect is a puzzle that punishes a lazy first word and rewards a systematic one.

Suffixes become your best friend

This is the length where word endings really start to pay. Six letters comfortably fits -ING, -TION is close, and -MENT, -ABLE, -ANCE and plain -ER or -ED all appear constantly. If you land two yellows near the end of the word, run through the common endings before anything else — you will often find the answer falls out immediately.

Adjust your opener

• Use an opener with three vowels if you can. At six letters, knowing which vowels are present narrows things faster than at five.
• Do not waste guess two confirming what you already know; test six entirely new letters instead.
• Keep an eye on the middle positions. Ends tend to resolve first, and the middle of a six-letter word is where games usually stall.
